Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Research 

The HELD Research Lab is dedicated to conducting research on cultural and linguistic diversity by emphasizing the uniqueness of all individuals, highlighting how our differing backgrounds bring us together in positive ways. Additionally, cultural and linguistic diversity research provides the opportunity to gain knowledge to share with other professionals in the field as well as with members of our community.

Professionals' Perceptions of Bilingualism in Children

This ongoing research project has been identifying how different types of professionals' who work with children perceive bilingualism both children who are

typically-developing and children who have special needs.

Elementary Classroom

This series of research projects is focused on adapting existing assessments in English for people with hearing loss into Spanish so that these assessments are accessible for those who speak Spanish.  

Professionals' Knowledge of Evaluations for Spanish-Speaking People with Hearing Loss

This research study identifies the knowledge that SLPs and Audiologists have about evaluations available for Spanish-speaking people with hearing loss.

This research has several areas of focus: 

1. Training students and professionals who are providing services to culturally and linguistically diverse individuals.

2. Recruiting and retaining SLP students who are culturally and linguistically diverse.
